Mrs. McVey was born in Ashe County on Friday, Jan. 19, 1940 to the late Larry Lee Bare and Edith Howell Bare. She retired from Hane’s after 33 years. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and will be missed by all.
She was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brittany Skye McVey.
Mrs. McVey is survived by her husband, Edward McVey; two sons, Eddie McVey and wife, Connie, of Fleetwood and Bobby McVey and wife, Sandy, of Crumpler; her mother, Edith Howell Bare of Jefferson; a brother, Jerry Bare and wife, Nellie, of Jefferson; three sisters, Betty June Barker of Jefferson, Nancy Pugh and husband, Bob, of Crumpler, and Sandy McGinnis and husband, John, of Jefferson; four grandchildren, Martin McVey, Stephanie McVey, Mariah McVey and Kelsey McVey; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at noon on Thursday, Dec. 22 at Boone Family Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Lonnie Jones and the Rev. Joe Riley Blevins officiating. Burial followed in Ashelawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
The family received friends from 10:30 a.m.-noon on Thursday, prior to the funeral service.
