Late Friday night, a double-stabbing in Fleetwood left one man dead, and another with injuries serious enough to require transport to Watauga Medical Center.

Shortly after 11 p.m. Friday, emergency personnel and Ashe County Sheriffs Deputies were dispatched to a mobile home on Miller Mountain Road in Fleetwood, in reference to a stabbing, according to Ashe County Sheriff James Williams.

Upon arrival, personnel found Brian Smith, 48 of Fleetwood, on the front porch of the mobile home with a knife wound. Authorities found James Carroll, 52 of Watauga County, deceased inside the home.

Carroll was Smith's landlord. At this time, it is unknown what events led to the stabbing.

Smith was rushed to Watauga Medical Center, according to Williams, and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

"I'm not sure about the extent of his injuries right now," said Williams. "I think they did perform exploratory surgery on him last night at Watauga."

As of Saturday morning, no charges have been filed.  Williams said the investigation will continue this weekend, and ACSO investigators will speak with District Attorney Tom Horner's office on Monday.
