Celebrate the New River on Saturday

Come out to the New River State Park US Hwy 221 Access on Saturday and enjoy a day of fun activities from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

There will be nature walks, educational sessions and displays, river critters on exhibit, fishing for kids, tubing on the river, prizes, costume parade and much more plus snack sales from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Schedule:

10 a.m. nature walk, create your own Snot Otter puppet

11 a.m. river ramble, aquatic scavenger hunt

12 p.m. Bats of the New River, tube rides (free)

12:30 p.m. Poetry reading, nature sing-a-long

12:45 p.m. Jell-O eating contest

1 p.m. Eastern hellbender “snot otter” presentation

2 p.m. Fishing for kids

2:30 p.m. Fly fishing demonstration

3 p.m. Prize drawings

3:30 p.m. Environmental costume parade

Events take place at the visitor center and walk-in campsite. Call the park office at 336-982-2587 for more information.
