To the Editor:

Very soon we will mark our ballots for either a very rich man versus one not nearly so rich.

My main concern in this letter to the editor is to state some facts, as I view them, about the very rich.

Let’s begin by relating a conversation that took place on a park bench. A gentleman who was reading his newspaper stands up suddenly and tosses his paper into the air. He exclaims, “All politicians are scoundrels!” Seated next to him is a well-dressed gentleman. He exclaims, “I take offense at that.”

The newspaper reader states, “Why? Are you a politician?” Reply, “No, I’m a scoundrel.”

This illustrates the opinion many folks have of politicians. There’s no question that many, if not most, are dedicated persons who do to the best of their abilities the jobs they were elected to do.

Now to get back to my characteristics of some of the very rich: These are randomly arranged and represent my personal views. Here goes: 1) arrogant; 2) self-serving; 3) claims his success was due mainly to his efforts only; 4) power hungry above all else; 5) has no empathy for middle or lower class individuals; 6) servants do all domestic duties; 7) socializing is with the very rich; 8) probably trades his Lexus for a Mercedes after six months; 9) his kids will most likely be given expensive foreign sports cars; 10) pretends to care for the masses just to get their vote.

These are some of the reasons I will not support the Republican candidate for president. I cannot relate or emulate to a single one of them.

To put it simple, when Rodney asked a fellow bar patron what his occupation was he replied, “I take from the poor and give to the rich.” This has been the main plank of the Republican platform since Abe Lincoln.

The elephant is a wonderful creature. It’s a shame he was chosen to represent the Republican Party.

I cast my vote for President Obama the day he filed for re-election.
