Maxie Miller McNeil, of 540 Waugh St., Jefferson and former resident of Stony Point, passed away Monday Nov. 19, 2012, at Margate Health and Rehab Center, after an extended illness. She was 89.

She was born Feb. 12, 1923 in Ashe County to the late Eugene Miller and Dottie Bare Miller.

Mrs. McNeil was a retired department store clerk. She was also of the Jehovah Witness faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe McNeil; two brothers, Reo Miller and Eugene Miller Jr.; and a sister, Anne Miller.

She is survived by her son, Jimmy Miller and wife Hisami of Olive Branch, Miss.; a brother, Wheeler Miller of Laurel Springs; two sisters, Nan Pennix of Mountain Home, Ariz., and Peggy Woody of Laurel Springs; a grandson, Dale McNeil; a granddaughter, Yukie McNeil Johnson; and a great granddaughter, Elsie Johnson.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday Nov. 24, 2012, at the Bare Family Cemetery. Rev. David Church will officiate. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 23, 2012, at Chapman Funeral Home.
