Mr. Joseph Edward Powers of Lansing died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Margate Health & Rehab Center. He was 73.

Mr. Powers was born on Dec. 2, 1939, in Ashe County to the late Raymond Basil and Ruth Howell Powers.

Mr. Powers was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Sturgill and Virginia Venable.

He loved spending time with his grandchildren. He loved going to church and was ordained as a minister in 1965.

Mr. Powers is survived by his wife Pauline Powers; two sons, Reggie Dale Powers of Lansing and Bennie Lee Powers of Salisbury; three brothers, Elmer Powers, Bill Powers and Allen Powers, all of Lansing; five sisters, Mary Blevins of Lansing, Mable Turner of Warrensville, Carol Ellis of Crumpler, JoAnn Kerr of Fleetwood, and Annie Ham of Kannapolis; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at the Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Brother Ralph Smith, Rev. Rex Hall and Rev. Ronda Rash. Burial followed in Powers Family Cemetery. The family received friends prior to the service.
