A National Weather Service winter weather advisory is in effect until midnight EST for Alleghany, Ashe and Watauga counties.
Hazards will include snow and sleet,which will begin falling by mid-morning, accumulating to 1 to 3 inches by this evening.
Winds will be southwest, five to 15 mph, with gusts up to 30 mph. Temperature will be 20-25 degrees.

Ashe County Schools will be closed today for both students and staff.
