Mary Kathleen Neaves Blevins, age 82, of Lansing, died Monday evening, April 20, 2009 at Ashe Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, April 23, at 11 a.m. at Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Lonnie Carpenter and the Rev. J.C. Darnell officiating. The body lay in state one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, at Boone Family Funeral Home.

Mrs. Blevins was born in Ashe County on Tuesday, March 8, 1927 to the late James Oscar and Evelyn Johnson Neaves. She worked on production at Sprague Electric. She was a faithful member of Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church. She loved flowers, gardening and listening to gospel music. She played an autoharp and sang herself.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell Jackson Blevins, and a son, Darrell Blevins.

Mrs. Blevins is survived by three sons, Mitch Blevins and wife, Cindy, of Greensboro, Steve Blevins and wife, Sandy, of Crumpler and Garry Blevins of Charlotte; two daughters, Kathy Harris and husband, Rick, of Charlotte and Linda Pruitt and husband, Dick, of Huntersville; two sisters, Virginia Barker of Jefferson and Helen Richardson of Crumpler; eleven grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
