The Huskies head into their second contest of the 2009 season tonight when they travel to Mt Airy for a tough match up with the defending NCHSAA 1A State Champions, the Mt Airy Bears.

Mt Airy had a season in 2008 that only one word can describe, perfect. 16-0 record, NCHSAA State Championship, and they were picked during the preseason as the fourth ranked team in North Carolina for 1A teams.

Mt Airy is entering the contest tonight carrying a 2-0 record with a season opening 41-28 victory over Starmount and then a 28-21 victory over Thomasville last week.

Ashe is entering on the opposite end of spectrum, coming in with a 0-1 record, and seeking to prove themselves after a tough 30-0 loss to Watauga on opening night for Ashe.

Ashe had last week off following the Watauga game.

In their first two games, Mt Airy has compiled a total of 483 rushing yards and 194 passing yards, averaging out to 241.5 rushing yards per game, and 97 passing yards per game. In a recap of Ashe’s game against Watauga, Ashe accumulated a total of 123 yards of offense.

Kickoff is scheduled for tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Wallace Shelton Stadium on the campus of Mt Airy High School located at 1011 North South St, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
