Mr. Harless was born in Caldwell County to the late Wiley Conrad Harless and Katherine Annie Grist Harless. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict and retired from Alba-Waldensian Hosiery. He was a member of East Hudson Baptist Church where he was a member of the Happy Pilgrims Quartet.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruth Moretz Harless; a brother, James Harless; a sister, Dorothy Harless; and brother-in-laws, Bobby Pettyjohn and Gordon Ogilvie.
Survivors include his sons, Larry Frank Harless and his wife, Ollie, of West Jefferson, and Roger Glenn Harless and his wife, Norma, of Lenoir; a daughter, Sherri Yvonne Harless Cruz of Winchester, VA; a brother, Max Harless and wife, Cathy, of High Point; sisters, Carolyn Pettyjohn of Camden, SC, Irma Ogilvie of Wilkesboro and Patricia Hoffman and husband, Bill, of Boone; five grandchildren, Melissa Glass Bolen, Julianna Glass, Michael Glass, Timothy Harless, Devin Harless; and a great grandchild, Jacob Bolen.
A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20, at New Life Baptist Church with the Reverend Tim Hawkins and the Reverend Robert Pettyjohn officiating. The family received friends prior to the service from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. Burial followed the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
