WJ Police officer dies at home

West Jefferson police patrolman Thomas “Tommy” Beamer, 40, passed away Saturday evening at his residence in West Jefferson.

In addition to his time with the WJPD, Beamer also served as a part-time telecommunicator with Ashe County Communications and was a former member of the Surry County Rescue Squad and Warrensville Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife, Cynthia, one daughter, Alexis, and a son, Hayden. Other survivors include his mother, Mary Vance Beamer, two brothers, a sister, and five nieces.

Funeral services, which are being handled by Boone Family Funeral Home, for Beamer are incomplete as of press time.

An account for Beamer's family has been established at the State Employee's Credit Union in West Jefferson. Anyone who wishes to donate to the fund can do so by contacting a bank representative.
