Mrs. Gwendolyn “Gwen” Holmes Wilson Childers, wife of George Allan Childers, of Wilkesboro, died Sunday, Nov. 4, 2012, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. She was 63.

Mrs. Childers was born in Halifax County on Oct. 3, 1949, to Bryant Malton and Lurleen Walker Wilson.

She was a member of Wilkesboro Baptist Church where she served as president of the Women on Mission and was a member of the adult choir and the women’s ensemble. Mrs. Childers was a retired cafeteria manager for the Wilkes County Schools. She served Wilkes Regional Medical Center as a member of the women’s auxiliary. She was also an active volunteer at the Wilkes Heritage Museum.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Childers is survived by one daughter, Jennifer Childers Lyall and husband, Ken of Jefferson; one son, Kent Childers of Wilkesboro; her mother, Lurleen Walker Wilson of Littleton; two brothers, Donald Wilson of Cary and Darrell Wilson of Reidsville; five grandchildren, John A Bauguess, Lily Lyall, Jay Lyall, Emily Childers and Nathan Childers.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at Wilkesboro Baptist Church with the Rev. Byron Greene and the Rev. Alfred E. Andrews Jr. officiating. Burial was in Mountlawn Memorial Park. The family received at Wilkesboro Baptist Church Fellowship Hall prior to the service.
