Mrs. Reba Barker Benson of Lansing died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at her home. She was 70.

Mrs. Benson was born on April 28, 1942, in Ashe County, to James and Pearl Jones Barker.

Reba loved gardening, gospel music, playing the guitar and crafts. She was a member of Greens Chapel Baptist Church.

Mrs. Benson was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Virgil “Junior” Benson; three brothers, Howard, Lake and Fred Barker; three sisters, Eula Brooks, Pauline Barker and Eleanor Testerman.

Mrs. Benson is survived by a son, Patrick Wayne Benson of Hudson; daughter, Thelma May Kastl and husband Scott of West Jefferson; sister, Myrtle Dean South of Jefferson; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013, at Badger Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Ed Hall. Burial will follow in Howell Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Tuesday prior to the service.
