FLEETWOOD-A West Jefferson woman and her two dogs escaped injury after she plunged her car into Gap Creek just off U.S.-221 Saturday afternoon.
The driver, Staci Lea Pernell, 46, of Phillips Gap Road, was traveling west on Idlewild Road in a late-model Nissan Juke at the time of the accident, according to North Carolina State Trooper Denny Parunak. The crash occurred shortly before 5 p.m. on Oct. 24.
“She came to the stop sign, made a left onto 221 and ran off the right shoulder and overturned into the creek,” Parunak said. “There were no injuries, and no other factors – alcohol or speed or anything else – played a role in the incident.”
Members of the Fleetwood Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene, and helped take of Pernell’s two dogs following the crash.
Parunak said Pernell was cited for failing to maintain lane control.
