JEFFERSON-Two Ashe County men have been charged in sex offense cases according to the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the ACSO, Robert William Brown, 22, of Lansing, was arrested by Madera, CA, law enforcement on Nov. 4, 2015, pursuant to warrants issued by Probation Office Barry Cox and Captain Carolyn Gentry of the Ashe County Sheriff’s Office. ACSO Detective Jerry Lewis also investigated.
According to a release issued by Gentry, a child sexual assault investigation began in early October. The suspect, Brown, left Ashe County upon the report to the Sheriff’s Office. The alleged victim was five years old.
“He was tracked by officers on a trail that led to Colorado and then to California where he was apprehended,” according to the release.
Brown is being held on two counts of felony probation violation and one count of rape of a child by an adult. He is awaiting extradition from California at this time.
Also arrested by the ACSO on November 4, 2015 was Joshua David Reber, age 27, of Laurel Springs NC.
Reber was arrested after an investigation beginning the first week of October 2015. He is currently in jail on $1 million bond. His first appearance is today.
He has been charged with two counts of rape of a child by an adult and three counts of sex offense of a child by an adult.
The alleged abuse occurred from the child’s age of 7 to 11 years. This case was investigated by Captain Carolyn Gentry and Detective Jerry Lewis.
