UPDATE: driver airlifted in stable condition

CRESTON —The name of the driver airlifted after an accident on Big Laurel Road Friday afternoon has been released.

According to State Trooper Kevin Aldridge, Jerry Freeman of Roan Mountain, Tennessee was traveling south on Big Laurel Road in a Maymead commercial truck when the accident occurred.

Freeman is reported to be in stable condition.

Aldridge said Freeman was possibly traveling too fast for the amount of asphalt the truck was carrying causing him to run off the road and become stuck on the embankment.

Aldridge said bystanders of the accident attempted to free the driver from the truck but were unable to before the truck went over the embankment, eventually coming to a rest on its passenger side.

According to Aldridge, the incident is still under investigation but charges are pending.
