WEST JEFFERSON — A new bakery will officially open Monday, Dec. 21 in downtown West Jefferson just in time for the holidays.

That’s according to RoseBud Bakery owner’s Tammy and Isaac Hendricks who recently moved to West Jefferson in early spring when Tammy Hendricks’ father fell ill.

According to the bakery’s website, the couple made a promise to her father before his passing that they would find a way to enjoy their time while balancing family and work.

“The end result, after putting mine and my husbands talents together, is a family owned bakery,” Tammy Hendricks says on the website.

According to Tammy Hendricks, her father also had a strong influence on the bakery’s name. Since her father’s last name and her maiden name had been Rose, he had called her “his little rosebud” which led her to name the bakery RoseBud Bakery.

Several months ago, the Hendricks purchased the former Pop’s Place location in downtown West Jefferson and have been working on renovations ever since.

According to Tammy Hendricks, there has been a lot of remodeling happening at the location over the last month in an effort to make the place look clean and less dark.

“We don’t want it to look tired, we wanted it to look fresh,” Tammy Hendricks said.

This isn’t the Hendricks’ first time in the bakery business. Isaac Hendricks said that he had once owned a bakery in Canada two decades prior to moving to Ashe County.

Menu items will include a variety of baked goods which Isaac Hendricks says will be made from scratch such as breads, pies, donuts, cookies and muffins. Additionally, breakfast and lunch entrees will be available including biscuits and gravy, pancakes, salads, sandwiches and soups.

According to their website, the bakery utilizes the Ashe County Farmer’s Market and local farmers to bring their customers farm fresh products. The bakery also works with local businesses including Rose Mountain Meats, located next door, who supplies them with their own customized meats.

RoseBud Bakery will be open from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday with the possibility of opening on Sundays if there is enough interest.

Rosebud Bakery is located at 102 North Jefferson Avenue in downtown West Jefferson. For more information, call 336-984-9951 or visit www.therosebudbakery.com.
