JEFFERSON —Dozens of community members came out last Wednesday afternoon to Welcome Home Baptist Church for a second American Red Cross blood drive coordinated by Trail Life USA.
Chartered out of Welcome Home Baptist Church, Trail Life USA is a non-profit Christian, outdoor adventure, character and leadership program for boys and young men.
The national organization was founded in July of 2013 and now has more than 500 units, totalling 20,000 members.
Nate Denny, an Ashe County High School senior and a Trail Life USA member, has coordinated two blood drives this year with the help of his fellow trailmen including Jordan Domangue, Timmy Barker and Robert Bickford.
According to Nate Denny, 29 donors were scheduled for an appointment Wednesday, Dec. 23 which reflects a previous blood drive held in January where 30 total pints of blood were collected.
Travis Denny, Tail Life USA Troop Master, said he can’t think of anything greater than helping people who need blood and says he is proud of his troop for volunteering during the blood drive.
“I’m very proud of them. That’s the whole point of Trail Life USA is to donate time,” Denny said. “Everything that we do is about Christ and I can’t think of anything better than donating something that gives life back to folks.”
