JEFFERSON —Four months following the opening of Naked Creek Eatery in Jefferson, a local Ashe County family is calling it an answered prayer.

“It’s something that we prayed about and talked about for a long time,” owner Vickie Flanagan said. “We dreamed about it for years.”

The family owned restaurant, which just opened last September, is owned by Vickie Flanagan, her husband Stacy and their daughter and son-in-law, Chris and Bailey Young.

“We were just looking to do maybe a food truck or something like that,” Vickie Flanagan said. “I was looking for restaurant equipment and when I was searching online, I came across this place.”

Within three weeks, Vickie Flanagan says they moved into the available restaurant space at the Days Inn that had been formerly occupied by the Blue Ridge Bistro.

“The place (Blue Ridge Bistro) was more geared towards Italian food and we didn’t want to feature pizza because there are a lot of pizza restaurants in the county,” Vickie Flanagan said.

According to Stacy Flanagan, who also owns Asaph Landscaping, Naked Creek Eatery started with a simple menu of burgers, flat breads and other sandwiches before offering seafood and other main dishes.

“We wanted something to offer that was a little bit different,” Stacy Flanagan said. “It is a work in progress and it’ll constantly be changing until we can get it to where it needs to be.”

Vickie Flanagan said that the restaurant serves food that’s made fresh to order including salads, hand-patted burgers and hand-breaded chicken tenders.

The Flanagan’s agree that their burgers and sirloin beef tips are now a favorite among many of their regulars.

Naked Creek Eatery also offers steaks, subs and desserts including their “Spoon Lovin’ Chocolate Cake.”

As for the restaurant’s name? It comes from the creek that runs behind the restaurant.

“We were trying to come up with a name and my daughter googled what was around here and found out that that was the name of the creek here in Jefferson,” Vickie Flanagan said. “We found out through some customers that they named the creek that because there used to not be any trees growing around it.”

According to Vickie Flanagan, Naked Creek Eatery prides themselves on being a family oriented business as followers of Christ especially since many members of the Flanagan family work at the restaurant.

“We try to provide a good family atmosphere for our customers, staff and our family, ” Vickie Flanagan said.

Naked Creek Eatery is located at 829 East Main Street in Jefferson and is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
