CRUMPLER-Firefighters from multiple volunteer departments battled a fire on Davis Road in Crumpler early Wednesday afternoon.

The fire was reported at 323 Davis Road just off NC-16N shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Feb. 3, 2016. According to scanner traffic, the home’s occupant wasn’t inside at the time of the blaze.

Roger Davis, the man who lives in the home, told the Jefferson Post he was out feeding his cattle when he noticed smoke coming from the home. Davis said he hurried back to the home and eventually made his way inside where he was able to grab a couple of his firearms before the smoke forced him back outside.

Davis was treated on the scene by the Ashe County Rescue Squad.

An American Red Cross representative, Jeffrey Brewer, told the Jefferson Post the agency would help Davis secure food and a place to stay in the short term, while another agency would help Davis with clothing.

The Jefferson Post will update as more details become available.
