Ashe County wreck report

ASHE COUNTY — The following accidents between Feb. 21 and Feb. 27 were reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and are considered public record.

Feb. 21

7:11 p.m.

Jefferson

A single-vehicle accident happened on Highway 16 about four miles from Jefferson. According to the narrative, Bridget Graham Winn of Grassy Creek was traveling north when the vehicle crossed the center line and ran off the left shoulder of the road, striking an embankment.

Winn refused medical transport.

The 2014 Honda involved had about $7,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

No citations were issued.

Feb. 23

6:17 a.m.

Jefferson

A single-vehicle accident happened on E. Shatley Springs Road about seven miles from Jefferson. According to the narrative, Samual Albert Absher of Sparta was traveling west when the vehicle ran off the road to the right and struck a tree. Absher stated that he swerved to avoid a deer that ran into the road.

Absher was uninjured.

The 1993 Chevrolet involved had an estimated $6,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Absher was cited for a lane control violation.

8:05 a.m.

Jefferson

A two-vehicle accident happened on Highway 221 in Jefferson. According to the narrative, April Nicole Campbell of Crumpler was traveling north and slowed to make a right turn onto Government Circle. A vehicle driven by Richard Kent Ashley of Jefferson was unable to get stopped in time and struck Campbell’s vehicle in the rear.

Both drivers were uninjured.

Ashley’s 2001 Chevrolet had about $500 in damages but was considered drivable.

Campbell’s 2006 Honda had about $1,500 in damages but was considered drivable.

Ashley was cited for failure to reduce speed.

Feb. 25

West Jefferson

A single-vehicle accident happened on Buck Mountain Road about three miles from West Jefferson. According to the narrative, Ronald John Goodlander Jr. of West Jefferson was traveling east when the vehicle ran off the road to the right and over-corrected, traveling back onto the road, across the center line and off the road to the left.

Goodlander was uninjured.

The 1993 Ford involved had approximately $3,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Goodlander was cited for exceeding safe speeds for weather conditions.

Feb. 26

3:38 p.m.

Creston

A single-vehicle accident happened on Highway 88 in Creston. According to the narrative, Skylar Alexander Branson of Creston was traveling west when the vehicle ran off the road to the right and into an embankment.

Branson and a passenger, Brittany Chanel Gilley of Warrensville, were uninjured.

The 2003 Chevrolet had about $3,500 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Charges are pending against Branson.

Feb. 27

5:50 p.m.

West Jefferson

A single-vehicle accident happened on Highway 163 about five miles from West Jefferson. According to the narrative, Derek Eugene Goodman of West Jefferson was traveling south when the vehicle ran off the right shoulder of the road and struck a guardrail.

Goodman was transported to Ashe Memorial Hospital.

The 2005 Subaru involved had an estimated $5,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

The guardrail had about $3,000 in damages.

Goodman was cited for reckless driving.
