Ashe County wreck report

ASHE COUNTY — The following accidents between March 13 and March 19 were reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and are considered public record.

March 14

8:22 a.m.

Creston

A single-vehicle accident happened on Peak Road in Creston. According to the narrative, Jared Ronald Mahala of Creston was traveling west when the vehicle crossed the center line in a curve. The vehicle traveled off the left side of the road, striking a large rock before coming to a stop.

Mahala was uninjured.

The 1998 Ford involved had approximately $5,500 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Mahala was cited for exceeding safe speeds.

6:28 p.m.

Jefferson

A single-vehicle accident happened on Highway 16 about five miles from Jefferson. According to the narrative, Ryan David Lewis of Warrensville was traveling south when the vehicle ran off the right shoulder of the road and struck an embankment.

Lewis was uninjured.

The 2005 Ford involved had about $5,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Lewis was cited for a lane control violation.

7:12 p.m.

Fleetwood

A single-vehicle accident happened on Highway 221 near Fleetwood. According to the narrative, Matthew York Vega of West Jefferson was traveling south when the vehicle crossed the center line and ran off the left shoulder before hitting an embankment. The vehicle left the scene and the driver reported the accident approximately one hour later.

Vega was uninjured.

The 2006 Subaru involved had an estimated $5,000 in damages but was considered drivable.

Vega was cited for exceeding a safe speed and driving left of center.

6:18 a.m.

Nathan’s Creek

A single-vehicle accident happened near Fulton Reeves Road off of Highway 221. According to the narrative, Travis James Hash of Crumpler was traveling east when the vehicle crossed the center line, ran off the road to the left and overturned. Hash was ejected from the vehicle.

Hash was transported to Watauga Medical Center.

The 2004 Chevrolet involved had about $4,500 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Hash was cited for exceeding safe speed, driving left of center and a seat belt violation.

3:26 p.m.

Jefferson

A two-vehicle accident happened on Highway 221 in Jefferson near Government Circle Drive. According to the narrative, Bobby Eugene Jones of Lansing was attempting a left turn onto Highway 221 when the vehicle struck the side of a vehicle driven by Kala Denean Powers of Wilkesboro.

Both drivers and one passenger, Brooke Faith Jones of Lansing, were uninjured.

Jones’ 2008 Ford had about $4,000 in damages but was considered drivable.

Powers’ 1999 Ford had about $2,000 in damages but was considered drivable.

Jones was cited for failure to yield.

March 16

10:42 a.m.

Fleetwood

A two-vehicle accident happened on Highway 221 in Fleetwood. According to the narrative, Brandi Nichole Bennett of Fleetwood was traveling south and slowed to make a right turn into a private driveway. A vehicle driven by Patrick Scott Rigsbee of Fleetwood failed to slow down in time and collided with the rear of Bennett’s vehicle.

Both drivers were uninjured.

Rigsbee’s 2000 Chevrolet had approximately $2,000 in damages but was considered drivable.

Bennett’s 2016 Subaru had about $3,500 in damages but was considered drivable.

Rigsbee was cited for failure to reduce speed.

March 17

8:24 a.m.

Lansing

A single-vehicle accident happened on Helton Creek Road about four miles from Lansing. According to the narrative, Allison Kate Wright of Crumpler was traveling north when the vehicle struck some loose gravel in the roadway. The vehicle traveled off the road to the right and struck a wood post before coming to a stop.

Wright was uninjured.

The 2013 Toyota involved had about $1,500 in damages but was considered drivable.

No citations were issued.

2:41 p.m.

Lansing

A two-vehicle accident happened on Lee Osborne Road about five miles from Lansing. According to the narrative, Kenneth Dean Clark of Lansing was attempting to back up in the road when the vehicle collided with a vehicle driven by Troy Andrew Wantland of Lansing.

Both drivers and two passengers, Johnathan Geddings of North Wilkesboro and Dan Gibides of North Wilkesboro, were uninjured.

Clark’s 2013 Ford had about $200 in damages but was considered drivable.

Wantland’s 2005 Ford had about $4,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Clark was cited for a safe movement violation.

5:15 p.m.

West Jefferson

A two-vehicle accident happened on Highway 163 less than a mile from West Jefferson. According to the narrative, Jessica Marie Harmon of Millers Creek was slowing to make a turn into a private driveway when a vehicle driven by Nels Allen Andersen of Jefferson could not slow down in time and struck Harmon’s vehicle in the rear.

Both drivers and one passenger, Tyler Jones of Jefferson, were uninjured.

Andersen’s 2000 Jeep had an estimated $2,900 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Harmon’s 1997 Pontiac had about $3,400 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Andersen was cited for failure to reduce speed.

5:57 p.m.

West Jefferson

A two-vehicle accident happened on Buck Mountain Circle about two miles from West Jefferson. According to the narrative, Drew Allen Baldwin of West Jefferson was attempting to make a left turn off of Acorn Drive when the vehicle collided with a vehicle driven by Charles Edward Abee of West Jefferson, who was traveling south. Abee’s vehicle continued of the road to the left and struck a tree.

Both drivers were uninjured.

Baldwin’s 2015 Toyota had approximately $2,500 in damages but was considered drivable.

Abee’s 2002 Toyota had about $6,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Baldwin was cited for failure to yield.

March 18

8:02 p.m.

Fleetwood

A two-vehicle accident happened on Highway 221 near Fleetwood. According to the narrative, Scott Manuel Ellsworth of Jefferson was traveling north when the vehicle crossed the center line and struck a vehicle driven by Michael Travis Darnell of Lansing.

Both drivers were uninjured.

Ellsworth’s 2005 Chevrolet had about $1,000 in damages but was considered drivable.

Darnell’s 2005 Cadillac had about $1,500 in damages but was considered drivable.

Ellsworth was cited for driving left of center.
