Ashe County wreck report

ASHE COUNTY — The following accidents between April 3 and April 9 were reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and are considered public record.

April 4

2:07 p.m.

Fleetwood

A two-vehicle accident happened on Pine Swamp Road about two miles from Fleetwood. According to the narrative, Bradley Luther Huffman of Millers Creek was traveling south. The truck was hauling a load of hay on a trailer. A bale of hay rolled off the vehicle and landed in the road. A vehicle driven by Arnold Phillip May of West Jefferson was traveling north and struck the hay bale.

Both drivers were uninjured.

Huffman’s 1999 Freightliner had no damage.

May’s 2007 Dodge had about $1,000 in damages but was considered drivable.

Huffman was cited for failure to secure load.

9:04 p.m.

West Jefferson

A single-vehicle accident happened on Beaver Drive less than a mile from West Jefferson. According to the narrative, Hunter Austin Howell of Grassy Creek was traveling south when the vehicle ran of the road to the right, traveled back on the roadway and crossed the center line. The vehicle continued off the left side of the road and struck a fence.

Howell was uninjured.

The 1999 Toyota involved had about $300 in damages but was considered drivable.

The fence belonging to Arveson Wyatt of West Jefferson had about $300 in damages.

Howell was cited for failure to maintain lane control.

April 5

3:58 p.m.

Jefferson

A two-vehicle accident happened on Highway 221 near the Dollar General store in Jefferson. According to the narrative, Erika Canales of Moravian Falls was attempting to make a left turn into the Dollar General parking lot when a vehicle driven by Alexander Brien Richardson of Jefferson truck Canales’ vehicle in the rear.

Richardson was uninjured.

Canales and one passenger, Rosemary Perez Cruz of Sparta, were transported to Ashe Memorial Hospital.

Richardson’s 2015 Ford had about $2,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Canales’ 2017 Mazda had about $2,000 in damages but was considered drivable.

Richardson was cited for failure to reduce speed.

April 6

2:48 p.m.

Jefferson

A single-vehicle accident happened on Wade Bare Road about two miles from Jefferson. According to the narrative, William Trevor Hartzog of West Jefferson was traveling north when the vehicle ran off the road to the right and struck three mailboxes and then a ditch.

Hartzog was uninjured.

The 2003 Suzuki involved had approximately $4,500 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Mailboxes belonging to Jerry Dean Calloway, James Carlton Calloway and Joseph Delmer Hoosier all of Jefferson each had about $400 in damages.

Hartzog was cited for a lane control violation.

11:15 p.m.

Creston

A two-vehicle accident happened on Three Top Road about a mile from Creston. According to the narrative, Vincent Lopez of Creston was traveling south. The vehicle ran off the road to the right, traveled back onto the road and then crossed the center line and traveled off the left side of the road. Lopez’s vehicle returned to the road and struck a vehicle driven by Joseph Charlie Shelton of Creston.

Both drivers were uninjured.

Lopez’s 1991 Honda had an estimated $4,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Shelton’s 2004 GMC had about $6,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Lopez was cited for driving while intoxicated and driving left of center.

April 7

1:13 p.m.

Creston

A parking lot accident happened at the Riverview Community Center in Creston. According to the narrative, Joseph Banner Eastridge was pulling out of a parking spot when the vehicle struck a parked vehicle owned by Joyce Cunningham Norris of Creston.

Eastridge was uninjured.

Eastridge’s 2002 Ford had about $2,500 in damages but was considered drivable.

Norris’ 2005 Ford had about $3,000 in damages but was considered drivable.

No citations were issued.

April 9

7:37 a.m.

West Jefferson

A single-vehicle accident happened on Highway 221 about three miles from West Jefferson. According to the narrative, Ashley Brooke Moore of Kernersville was traveling north. The road was partially snow-covered, causing Moore to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle ran off the road to the left and overturned.

Moore and one passenger, Jacob Webb Statham of Greensboro, were transported to Ashe Memorial Hospital.

The 2004 Dodge involved had approximately $8,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Moore was cited for exceeding a safe speed.

11:56 a.m.

Fleetwood

A single-vehicle accident happened on Highway 221 near Fleetwood. According to the narrative, Kenneth Gregory Sexton of West Jefferson was traveling south when a tree fell onto the vehicle from the right side of the road.

Sexton and a passenger, Robin Sexton of West Jefferson, were uninjured.

The 2004 GMC had about $2,500 in damages but was considered drivable.

6:12 p.m.

Glendale Springs

A two-vehicle accident happened on Highway 16 near Glendale Springs. According to the narrative, Pamela Jean Ham of Jefferson and David Bruce Ayers of Jefferson were traveling north. Ham attempted to pass Ayers when Ayers accelerated to keep Ham from passing. Both vehicles traveled into a curve and Ham attempted to merge back into the northbound lane when both vehicles collided.

Both drivers and three passengers, Sierra Ayers of Jefferson, James Douglas Carson of Crumpler and John Franklin Cummings of Crumpler, were uninjured.

Ham’s 2004 Chevrolet had about $500 in damages but was considered drivable.

Ayers’ 2004 Nissan had about $2,000 in damages but was considered drivable.

No citations were issued.
