CULLOWHEE-Former Ashe County High School and Western Carolina University standout Josh Wineberg has scored a tryout with the Green Bay Packers.
That news comes from Wineberg’s Instagram account Sunday afternoon.
“I’m getting to opportunity to tryout for the Packers we will see where it leads me to,” Wineberg wrote on May 1. “Thanks to everyone for the prayers! And a huge thanks to @ussportsinc with @uss_football for helping me get the chance.”
Wineberg was a four-year starter for the Catamounts after finishing up his terrific high school career at Ashe County High School. He played 45 games at right tackle and three games at left tackle during his career at WCU.
Wineberg collected second team All-Southern Conference accolades from both the head coaches and the voting media at the end of this past season. It was the second-straight season he was chosen as a second team All-SoCon player. He was also invited to play in the 2015 FCS National Bowl.
