Ashe County wreck report

ASHE COUNTY — The following accidents between April 26 and May 7 were reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and are considered public record.

April 26

7:23 a.m.

West Jefferson

A two-vehicle accident happened on Highway 221 near Westwood Elementary School. According to the narrative, Amy Beth Urban Bledsoe of Todd was attempting to make a left turn out of the Westwood Elementary School parking lot when her vehicle struck another vehicle driven by John Clark Reavis of Fleetwood.

Bledsoe was transported to Ashe Memorial Hospital.

Reavis was uninjured.

Bledsoe’s 1998 Subaru had about $2,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Reavis’ 2003 Dodge had about $1,500 in damages but was considered drivable.

Bledsoe was cited for failure to yield.

April 27

7:58 a.m.

Jefferson

A two-vehicle accident happened on Highway 88 a little over one mile from Jefferson. According to the narrative, Kimberly Nicole Taylor of Jefferson was attempting to turn out of the Mount Paddy Church parking lot when she collided with a vehicle driven by Kwi Sun McNeil of Lansing.

Both drivers were uninjured.

Taylor’s 2007 Toyota had about $1,500 in damages but was considered drivable.

McNeil’s 2003 Nissan had about $2,000 in damages but was considered drivable.

Taylor was cited for failure to yield.

12:23 p.m.

West Jefferson

A two-vehicle accident happened on Buffalo Road about two miles from West Jefferson. According to the narrative, Lee L. Lewis of West Jefferson and Christopher Dennis Hamby of Jefferson were stopped at the intersection to turn onto Highway 88. Lewis was attempting to turn right and had to stop for traffic. Hamby moved forward and struck Lewis’ vehicle.

Both drivers and one passenger, Joy May Lewis of West Jefferson, were uninjured.

Hamby’s 2001 Ford had an estimated $250 in damages but was considered drivable.

Lewis’ 2006 Ford had an estimated $1,500 in damages but was considered drivable.

Hamby was cited for an unsafe movement.

April 30

7:12 p.m.

Jefferson

A single-vehicle accident happened on Highway 16 about four miles from Jefferson. According to the narrative, Sarah Jane Elizabeth Ross of Crumpler was traveling north. The driver stated that she swerved to miss a deer and lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle ran off the road to the right and down an embankment before striking a tree and coming to a stop.

Ross and a passenger, Edward August Ross of West Jefferson, were uninjured.

The 2006 Audi involved had about $6,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Ross was cited for a lane control violation.

May 1

1:48 a.m.

West Jefferson

A two-vehicle accident happened on Highway 221 about two miles from West Jefferson. According to the narrative, Stanton Cooper Moore of Jefferson was traveling north when his vehicle hydroplaned, traveled across the center line and struck a vehicle driven by Cassidy Faith Guenther of Boone.

Both drivers and a passenger, Daniel Evan Houck of West Jefferson, were uninjured.

Moore’s 2002 GMC had approximately $4,500 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Guenther’s 2002 Ford had approximately $5,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Moore was cited for exceeding safe speeds and a lane control violation.

6:10 a.m.

Jefferson

A single-vehicle accident took place on Highway 221 about a mile from Jefferson. According to the narrative, Jimmy David Blevins of Crumpler was traveling south when he suffered an apparent medical condition, causing the vehicle to cross the center line and run off the left side of the road. The vehicle struck an embankment and overturned.

Blevins refused medical transport.

The 2000 Ford involved had about $10,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

No citations were issued.

May 2

2:08 p.m.

Fleetwood

A two-vehicle accident happened on Highway 221 about five miles from West Jefferson. According to the narrative, John Lee Harms of Warrensville was attempting a left turn off of Ira Jordan Road onto Highway 221. As Harms entered the roadway, his vehicle was struck by Joseph James Brown of Fleetwood.

Both drivers and one passenger, Logan Hardin of Jefferson, were uninjured.

Harms’ 2000 Ford had an estimated $2,500 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Brown’s 1997 Ford had an estimated $4,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Harms was cited for an unsafe movement.

May 4

8:16 p.m.

Deep Gap

A two-vehicle accident happened on Highway 221 near the Watauga County line. According to the narrative, Nathan Douglas Barker of Deep Gap was traveling south when he crossed the center line and sideswiped a vehicle driven by Charles James Sauder of Fleetwood.

Both drivers were uninjured.

Barker’s 2001 Toyota had about $10,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Sauder’s 2004 Dodge had about $8,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Barker was cited for driving left of center.

May 6

4:44 p.m.

West Jefferson

A two-vehicle accident happened on Highway 221 near the turn into the parking lot of Lowe’s Hardware. According to the narrative, Lowell Gray Haynes of Millers Creek attempted to make an illegal left turn onto Highway 221 out of the Lowe’s parking lot when his vehicle was struck by Angela Lynn Shimel of West Jefferson.

Both drivers and a passenger, Sharon Diane Crumpler of Wilson, North Carolina, were uninjured.

Haynes’ 1989 Ford had about $1,500 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Shimel’s 2014 Chrysler had about $2,000 in damages but was considered drivable.

Haynes was cited for failure to yield.
