Superior Court: Stolen water pump leads to jail time

JEFFERSON-A West Jefferson man was sentenced to active jail time for stealing a water pump in Laurel Springs last year.

Randall Scott Combs, 44, pleaded no contest to breaking and entering of a motor vehicle and felony larceny. He was sentenced to 10 to 21 months active in the N.C. Carolina Department of Corrections.

According to testimony, Combs stole a water pump from a piece of equipment belonging to Tri-County Paving on W.A. Reed Road on May 26, 2015. An eyewitness, who was fishing at the bridge at the corner of W.A. Reed and Fulton Reeves roads, observe Combs steal the pump from the truck.

Combs later returned to pump undamaged, according to testimony. He was on probation at the time of the offense.
