Sheriff: Longtime deputies moving on

JEFFERSON-The Ashe County Sheriff’s office has announced the recent departure of two long-time employees.

Deputies Joe Francis and Jeremy Munday recently left the department for better paying opportunities, Ashe County Sheriff James Williams confirmed Tuesday.

Deputy Joe Francis has left his position as school resource officer at Ashe High for a welder’s position at AEV in Jefferson. Munday, however, is now with the police staff at Watauga Medical Center in Boone.

Munday was earning a salary of $37,000 with the ACSO. He now enjoys a living of $50,000 with his position at the hospital.

To accommodate for this change, the sheriff’s office will move Terry Buchanan from his courthouse security position to the high school. Deputy James McNeil has been transferred to the middle school, said Williams.
