Ashe County wreck report

ASHE COUNTY — The following accidents between June 5 and June 11 were reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and are considered public record.

June 5

2:13 p.m.

Jefferson

An animal collision happened on Highway 16 about four miles from Jefferson. According to the narrative, Sue Jones Marsh of Crumpler was traveling north when the vehicle struck a deer that ran into the road.

Marsh was uninjured.

The 2014 Toyota involved had about $1,500 in damages but was considered drivable.

June 6

7:04 p.m.

Lansing

A single-vehicle accident happened on Highway 194 about two miles from Lansing. According to the narrative, Matthew Joseph Gilley of Jefferson was traveling south when Gilley entered a curve too fast and ran off the right shoulder of the road. The vehicle struck a ditch and then overturned into the road.

Gilley and one passenger, Hunter Austin Howell of Grassy Creek, refused medical transport.

The 1996 Toyota involved had about $5,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Gilley was cited for exceeding safe speed.

7:29 p.m.

West Jefferson

A two-vehicle accident happened on Buck Mountain Road about five miles from West Jefferson. According to the narrative, Jacob Dee Walton of West Jefferson was traveling north when his vehicle crossed the center line and struck a vehicle driven by Randall Shane Dancy of Warrensville.

Both drivers refused medical transport.

Walton’s 2007 Ford had about $6,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Dancy’s 2001 Isuzu had about $3,000 in damages but was considered drivable.

Walton was cited for driving left of center.

June 7

11:27 a.m.

Jefferson

A parking lot collision happened at Southern States in Jefferson. According to the narrative, Vickie Lynn Barker Mullis of West Jefferson was backing up and collided with an empty vehicle owned by Kristi Shepherd Lewis of Lansing.

Mullis was uninjured.

Mullis’ 2000 Mercury had about $1,200 in damages but was considered drivable.

Lewis’ 2015 Dodge had about $1,500 in damages but was considered drivable.

Mullis was cited for improper backing.

June 8

1:14 p.m.

West Jefferson

A two-vehicle accident happened on Highway 88 about two miles from West Jefferson. According to the narrative, Kelly Eugene Woods Jr., of Fleetwood was stopped for oncoming traffic near the parking lot of Dollar Tire. A vehicle driven by Thomas Lee Kincaid Jr., of Statesville could not slow down in time and struck Woods’ vehicle.

Both drivers refused medical transport. One child was transported to Ashe Memorial Hospital.

Kincaid’s 2005 Acura had an estimated $5,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Woods’ 2006 Ford had an estimated $3,500 in damages but was considered drivable.

Kincaid was cited for failure to reduce speed.

June 10

2:09 p.m.

West Jefferson

A three-vehicle accident happened on Highway 163 about three miles from West Jefferson. According to the narrative, Amber Faith Calhoun of North Wilkesboro and Kenneth Lee Mullen of West Jefferson were stopped for traffic near Boggs Road. A vehicle driven by Tate Eugene Miller of West Jefferson could not slow down in time and struck Calhoun’s vehicle, which then hit Mullen’s vehicle. Miller’s vehicle ran off the road to the right and up an embankment.

All three drivers refused medical transport. Three children were uninjured.

Miller’s 2010 Jeep had about $500 in damages but was considered drivable.

Calhoun’s 2013 Chevrolet had about $14,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Mullen’s 2010 Toyota had about $1,500 in damages but was considered drivable.

Miller was cited for failure to reduce speed.

June 11

11:10 p.m.

Jefferson

An animal collision happened on Highway 88 about six miles from Jefferson. According to the narrative, Tommy William Shepherd Jr., of Lansing was traveling west when the vehicle struck a cow in the roadway.

Shepherd was uninjured.

The 2011 Chevrolet involved had approximately $2,000 in damages but was considered drivable.
