WEST JEFFERSON-Firefighters and first responders from multiple department beat back a blaze on Golden Pond Road in West Jefferson Friday afternoon.

Firefighters from the West Jefferson and Jefferson Volunteer Fire Departments, along with members of the Ashe County Rescue Square, knocked down a fire that appeared to originate in the kitchen of a home at 411 Golden Pond Road. Responders were dispatched to the blaze shortly before 12:45 p.m. July 22.
