Ashe County wreck report

ASHE COUNTY — The following accidents between July 10 and July 16 were reported by the North Carolina Highway Patrol and are considered public record.

July 10

8 a.m.

West Jefferson

A single-vehicle accident happened on Highway 221 Business in West Jefferson. According to the narrative, Joshua Cain Cate of Powell Crossroads, Tennessee was traveling south when the vehicle ran off the road to the right and down an embankment before striking a power pole guide wire.

Cate was uninjured.

The 2003 Hyundai involved had about $2,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

The guide wire belonging to Blue Ridge Electric had about $2,500 in damages.

Cate was charged with driving while intoxicated and a lane control violation.

4:16 p.m.

Warrensville

A single-vehicle accident happened on Highway 88 near Warrensville. According to the narrative, Kathryn Faw Elliott of Warrensville was traveling west when the vehicle crossed the center line, struck a ditch and then an embankment.

Elliott refused medical transport.

The 2002 Chrysler involved had an estimated $1,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

No citations were issued.

July 11

5:11 a.m.

Jefferson

An animal collision happened on Highway 16 a little over one mile from Jefferson. According to the narrative, Jacob Doyle Hartzog of Jefferson was traveling north when his vehicle struck a deer and then ran off the road to the right, striking a speed limit sign, a ditch and then an embankment.

Hartzog was uninjured.

The 2003 Mercury involved had approximately $2,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

The speed limit sign had about $350 in damages.

Hartzog was cited for driving with a revoked license.

6:02 p.m.

West Jefferson

A single-vehicle accident happened on Boggs Road about three miles from West Jefferson. According to the narrative, Victoria Russell Cooper of West Jefferson was traveling west when the vehicle crossed the center line and ran off the road to the left. The vehicle then collided with a tree and traveled down an embankment.

Cooper was uninjured.

The 2004 Chevrolet involved had about $4,500 in damages and was not considered drivable.

No citations were issued.

July 12

11:41 p.m.

Jefferson

An animal collision happened on Highway 16 about four miles from Jefferson. According to the narrative, Michael Weldon Bishop of Crumpler was traveling north when his vehicle collided with a deer that ran into the road.

Bishop was uninjured.

The 1998 Ford involved had an estimated $2,400 in damages but was considered drivable.

July 13

2:24 p.m.

West Jefferson

A two-vehicle accident happened on Highway 163 about two miles from West Jefferson. According to the narrative, Jennifer Key Walton of West Jefferson was stopped to make a left turn onto Bob McNeill Road. A vehicle driven by Melanie Brooke Day of West Jefferson could not stop in time and struck the rear of Walton’s vehicle.

Both drivers were uninjured.

Day’s 2009 Toyota had about $4,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Walton’s 2015 Jeep had about $1,500 in damages but was considered drivable.

Day was cited for failure to reduce speed.

4:41 p.m.

Crumpler

A two-vehicle accident happened on Shelter Baptist Church Road near Crumpler. According to the narrative, Tiffeny Louise Bare of Sparta was traveling east when the vehicle crossed the center line and sideswiped a vehicle driven by Robert Larry Church of Crumpler.

Both drivers refused medical transport.

Bare’s 2000 Mitsubishi had about $2,500 in damages but was considered drivable.

Church’s 2001 Ford had about $2,000 in damages but was considered drivable.

Bare was cited for driving left of center.

July 14

10:19 a.m.

Fleetwood

A two-vehicle accident happened on Highway 221 near Idlewild Road in Fleetwood. According to the narrative, Jimmy Clark Hopson of Crumpler was stopped in the road for traffic. A vehicle driven by Bobbie Osborne Jones of Warrensville could not slow in time and struck Hopson’s vehicle.

Both drivers were uninjured.

Jones’ 1993 Honda had an estimated $2,000 in damages but was considered drivable.

Hopson’s 2013 GMC had an estimated $1,000 in damages but was considered drivable.

Jones was cited for failure to reduce speed.

7:01 p.m.

West Jefferson

A single-vehicle accident happened on Frank Dillard Road about four miles from West Jefferson. According to the narrative, William Sherdon Bare of Jefferson was traveling south when the vehicle ran off the right shoulder of the road and struck a ditch. The vehicle then traveled across a private driveway and struck a power pole guide wire, causing the power pole to break.

Bare refused medical transport.

The 2007 Ford involved had approximately $7,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

The power pole belonging to Blue Ridge Electric had about $8,000 in damages.

Bare was cited for failure to maintain lane control.

July 15

5:09 a.m.

Jefferson

An animal collision happened on Highway 16 about four miles from Jefferson. According to the narrative, Misty Lake Richardson of Warrensville was traveling north when the vehicle struck a deer that ran into the road.

Richardson was uninjured.

The 2015 Jeep involved had about $2,500 in damages and was not considered drivable.

July 16

4:12 p.m.

Lansing

A two-vehicle accident happened on Long Branch Road near Lansing. According to the narrative, Kimberly Rae Blevins of Lansing was traveling south when the vehicle crossed the center line and sideswiped a vehicle driven by Carlos Mencia Garcia of Lansing.

Both drivers were transported to Ashe Memorial Hospital.

Blevins’ 1989 Chevrolet had an estimated $3,000 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Garcia’s 2013 Ford had an estimated $4,200 in damages and was not considered drivable.

Blevins was cited for driving left of center.
