ASHE COUNTY —The results are in for this year’s “Outrageously” Good Customer Service awards which recognizes those who have gone above and beyond to deliver great service to customers, clients and coworkers in Ashe County.
Each year the Ashe County Chamber of Commerce receives nominations from chamber members and local residents for individuals and businesses they believe have the best customer service and can be considered the best of Ashe County.
The awards were presented during the “Outrageously” Good Customer Service Breakfast hosted by the Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, Oct. 1s at Boondocks Brew Haus in West Jefferson. The event was sponsored by SkyLine/SkyBest.
Individuals who were recognized for “Outrageously” Good Customer Service, along with nominating remarks, include:
Dick and Linda Copus, Winner’s Circle
“These folks have truly become the extraordinaire in the restaurant business,” according to the nominating letter. “Their remarkable abilities have improved over many many years and the future is even brighter.”
Zac Graves, Go Postal
I arrived at the business at 5:45 p.m. and he was the only one there. He greeted us with a winning smile as always, listened to our requirements and accepted the challenge with grace, stayed at the shop after hours until it was finished and the project was ready to be picked up the next day. And it was perfect in every way. He saved the day for us.
Maria Holman, Ashe County Library
“She’s never met a stranger and helps library patrons with any request that they have,” according to the nominating letter. “She goes out of her way to find the answer, the correct person or the website to help the patron in her search. She is a true representative of what makes Ashe County the Coolest Corner of North Carolina.”
Velma Osborne, Sweet & Savory Bakery and Deli
“It is always topnotch service with a smile,” according to the nominating letter. “Great customer service and great food, what a nice asset to West Jefferson.”
Todd Phillips, Jefferson Rent All
“He is a true gentleman and a mechanical genius, who serve our community in an outstanding and auspicious way,” according to the nominating letter. “He is really an unsung hero to all of us who do not need equipment of various sorts for more than one usage.”
Derick South, K&K Stitch and Screen
“This business has such a friendly staff that offers quality embroidery and silk screened products and excellent customer service,” according to the nominating letter. “It is community minded business. They cast a wide net in serving the needs of its customers.”
The Chamber of Commerce also recognized two departments at Ashe Memorial Hospital (AMH) including the hospital’s monitored bed unit in the critical care department and its oncology unit, which patients and family said go above and beyond.
Julie Wyatt and Village Florist was named 2016’s Outrageously Good Customer Service overall business winner.
Wyatt’s nominating letter comes from a customer who’s worked with her three times in recent years.
“She was so warm and helpful but I had no idea what we wanted but she walked me through the process,” according to the nominating letter. “Last year we used her services again for my father in law and she couldn’t have been better in anyway. Again she helped me with the whole thing and everything was perfect. In September, we had cemetery decoration and I called at the last minute because I’d forgotten and she was swamped, but she took the time to work my needs into her time.”
Wyatt has owned Jefferson’s Village Florist since 2009. Located at 638 South Main Street in Jefferson, Village Florist is a kind of one-stop shop for everything from anniversary flowers to graduation gifts, to Valentine’s Day surprises and sympathy arrangements.
Wyatt attributed part of her success – her company has notched multiple awards as the county’s Florist of the Year since opening seven years ago – to her staff’s understanding that going just a litle farther for the customer makes all the difference in the end.
Take funerals, for instance. Wyatt said she recently stayed up past 2 a.m. working on a rush arrangement for a customer – and those kinds of long hours aren’t outside the norm.
“We can plan just about everything except for funerals,” Wyatt said. “But we still believe that you need to stop what you’re doing, pay attention and pay your respects. A lot of families are shattered when they come through your door, so its important to do what you can to help them.”
