Rescue workers carefully remove an injured driver in Tuesday’s wreck.

A two-car accident at the intersection of Campus Drive and U.S. 221 Monday evening resulted in one person being transported to a local hospital.

The accident occurred around 6 p.m. when a flat-bed truck collided with a Volkswagen passenger car. The truck came to rest in the middle of the roadway while the red passenger car, which deployed its airbags upon impact, landed upright on the far shoulder of the highway. A large debris field of glass and plastic littered the highway and separated the two vehicles.

The driver of the Volkswagen – a young female – uninjured while the male driver of the truck was transported to the hospital. He appeared conscious and moving at the time of his extraction.
