WEST JEFFERSON — The Backstreet Park Summer Concert Series continues with The Mountain Laurels on Friday, Aug. 7 from 5:30-7 p.m.
The Mountain Laurels are a Celti-lachian band of women from Boone who perform a blend of Americana, Celtic and folk music consisting of Rhonda Lorence on fiddle, Connie Woolard on hammer dulcimer, Louise Keegan on Irish flute/whistle, Elaine Gray on guitar and Suzi Mills on bass, accordion and vocals.
The group has performed at venues such as Jone House Concert Series, Music in the Valle, Sugar Grove Music Fest, Chetola Symphony in the Park and a variety of local wineries and breweries.
The Mountain Laurels released their second CD “Edge of the Dance” in Dec. 2014. The CD is available on iTunes, Amazon and CDBaby. Their first CD, titled “Highland Bloom,” was released in 2012.
The Backstreet Park Concert Series showcases traditional, old time, and bluegrass music every third and fourth Friday night from 5:30- 7 p.m., May through September.
The Series will continue through Sept. 4 with:
•The Elkville String Band on Friday, Aug. 14.
•The Grayson Highlands Band on Friday, Aug. 21.
•Claybank on Friday, Aug. 28.
•Zephyr Lightning Bolts on Friday, Sept. 4.
The event is sponsored by community organizations and admission is free.
