WEST JEFFERSON — Hibriten and Ashe County will face off on Friday night with the Huskies hoping to grab its first victory of the 2015 season.

The Panthers (2-1) are coming off of a 19-0 win over rival West Caldwell. Fullback Chris Scott had a five-yard rushing score and caught an 18-yard TD from quarterback Trey Ellis to lead the Panthers to the win. David Clark added Hibriten’s other score on a three-yard TD run.

Ellis, the senior signal caller, is one of few Hibriten skill players that returned from last season’s game against Ashe that ended in a no contest after severe weather ended the game at halftime.

Leading rushers Devell Maxwell, TiShawn Daniels and Dontavius Caldwell all graduated, opening the door for this year’s leading rusher, Chris Scott.

Scott, listed at 5-9, 217-pounds, has been a force so far this season, leading the Panthers to both of the team’s wins.

Defensively, Hibriten has to replace almost the entire starting defense from last year, including the entire front seven in the team’s 4-3 defense.

According to Hibriten head coach Clay Lewis, this is the youngest team he has coached at Hibriten with just two of 22 starters returning.

The Huskies (0-2) come off of a bye week and will look to bounce back from the 49-27 home loss to Watauga two weeks ago.

Quarterback Colin Ellis completed 19-39 passes for 213 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.

Maison McNeill had 6 catches for 94 yards and three touchdowns and Judd Price had his first big game of the season with 6 catches for 61 yards and also a 75-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.

Defensively, the Huskies will have to figure out a way to stop the Panthers’ rushing attack as their offense is fairly similar to what the Pioneers ran two weeks ago. Watauga ran for almost 350 yards against the Huskies.

Kickoff from Ashe County High School will be at 7:30 p.m.
