WEST JEFFERSON — The Huskies got its fifth consecutive wins on Monday evening with an 8-1 win over West Wilkes.

Ashe County is now 7-5 overall and 5-1 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.

West Wilkes fell to 1-9 overall and 1-4 in the MVAC.

Tennis

ELKIN — Conference leading Elkin added another win with a 9-0 victory over the Lady Huskies. The Elks are a perfect 12-0 on the year.

Ashe fell to 7-7 overall.

Ashe had to forfeit two matches due to injuries. Fifth seed Kaylie Fernandez had to forfeit her singles match with ankle and a wrist injury and Ashe had to forfeit a doubles match after Josie Cooper, who had just recently returned from an ankle injury, re-injured the same foot again.

Volleyball

WEST JEFFERSON — The Lady Huskies have added two non-conference wins over the last two weeks to push the team’s total win number up to four.

Ashe scored a 3-0 win over Oak Hill Academy on Sept. 21. with game scores of 25-8, 25-14 and 25-16.

The Lady Huskies also capped off the season sweep of West Caldwell with a 3-1 win on Sept. 28. Ashe won the first game by a 25-21 score, but then West Caldwell battled back to win the second game by a 25-18 score. Ashe came out strong in the third and fourth games to win the match with 30-28 and 25-19 wins.

Most recently, the volleyball team dropped a match at Elkin on Oct. 1, 3-0, and lost on Tuesday at Starmount by a 3-0 score. Game scores against Starmount were 25-15, 25-12 and 25-18.

Ashe is now 4-13 overall and 1-9 in the MVAC.
