ELKIN — Three Ashe County High School tennis players qualified for 2A regional play after finishing up the regular season and the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference Tournament.

First up, the Lady Huskies had to finish the regular season last Thursday against Wilkes central. Ashe came away with a 6-3 victory.

“I am very proud of our players and the growth I have seen in the team,” said head coach Larry Dix.

Prior to the match, the team honored its two seniors from this season, Keely Caddell and Callie Powell.

Caddell has played as the top seed all season long while Powell has filled in at different seeds throughout the year in both singles and doubles play.

On Tuesday, the MVAC Tournament was held in Elkin and Ashe will once again be well-represented in regional play.

Caddell lost in the 2A singles finals to Wilkes Central’s Jessika Barber, but by reaching the championship match, she qualified for the 2A Midwest Regional coming up in Salisbury next week.

Ashe also had a doubles team make the regionals. Morgan Church and Caroline Current finished as the 2A runner-up and will compete in Salisbury as well.

The 2A Midwest Regional is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Oct. 23-24.
