HAYS — Colin Ellis threw four touchdowns and ran for one more in Friday night’s 43-0 blowout victory over North Wilkes.

The Huskies were all over the Vikings from the opening drive, scoring three times in the first quarter and two more times before the half to take a 35-0 lead.

Ashe started the scoring onslaught with a touchdown pass from Ellis to senior Maison McNeill. On the next series, Ellis found senior Sam Hudler to give Ashe a 14-0 lead.

McNeill caught another TD pass late in the first to cap off a strong first 12 minutes for the Huskies.

Ashe had no let up in them in the second period. Sophomore tailback John Reavis, who filled in nicely for the injured Skye Sullivan, scored and Ellis tossed his fourth TD of the half finding Hudler again to close out the half with a 35-0 advantage.

In the second half, Ellis used his legs to add the sixth and final score of the night.

The Huskies bounced back nicely from the team’s first conference loss of the season last week to improve to 5-4 overall and 4-1 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.

The struggles continue for North Wilkes as they dropped to 1-8 overall and remain winless in the MVAC.

Ashe will close out the regular season with two key home games. First up, Ashe will host Starmount this Friday, Oct. 30, and rap up the regular season on Friday, Nov. 6 against Elkin.

The Huskies are still in the thick of it for a chance at a third straight MVAC title. East Wilkes, who beat Starmount on the road to remain unbeaten in MVAC play, still have a tough contest coming up against Wilkes Central this week. East will end the season at West Wilkes. If the Cardinals drop at least one of its remaining two games and the Huskies can win out, Ashe will, at worst, share the MVAC Championship for a third straight year.
