Ashe travels to Lexington for first round playoff game

WEST JEFFERSON – The Ashe County varsity soccer team will be on the road in the first round of the 2A state playoffs, beginning on Tuesday with a trip to Lexington High School.

The Huskies just missed out on a home match as they received the 17th overall seed in the west while Lexington received the 16th seed.

Ashe enters the playoffs with an overall record of 14-6-1 and finished the year in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference with a mark of 11-2-1.

The Lexington Yellow Jackets finished the year with a record of 10-10-3 and a 6-2-2 record in the Central Carolina 2A conference.

The winner of this match will face the winner of top seed Salisbury (21-0-2) and 32-seed East Lincoln (6-13-4). Salisbury and Lexington share the same conference where Salisbury won both regular season matchups, 2-0 and 4-0.

Ashe will go into this game having allowed just one goal in the team’s previous four games.

The match will begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

Wilkes Central also qualified as the third seed for the 2A playoffs as the conference champ while fellow MVAC teams Starmount (3-seed) and Elkin (22-seed) also qualified for the 1A playoffs.

Avery County received the seventh seed in the 1A west playoffs and Watauga is the 10th seed in the 4A west bracket.
