WEST JEFFERSON — The Huskies will wrap up the regular season this Friday and honor its seniors against Elkin in the final home game.

16 seniors will be honored prior to kickoff.

Ashe will be aiming to bounce back from a 16-6 loss at home last week against Starmount. The Huskies’ lone score came on a TD pass from junior Colin Ellis to senior wideout Maison McNeill.

Elkin has had its struggles all season long but will make the road trip to West Jefferson hoping to come away with its second win of the season.

The Buckin’ Elks (1-9, 1-5 MVAC) saw its only win come back on Oct. 5 with a 28-14 win at home over North Wilkes.

Last week, the Elks were shutout in a defensive battle by Alleghany, 8-0.

One bright note from last week’s game was the defense, a group that entered the contest with the worst defense in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference. The Elks have given up 360 points in 10 games and 193 points in six conference games, the most of any team.

The Elks are a very young team with only nine seniors and three juniors on the roster.

Sophomore quarterback Beau Burgess leads the Buckin’ Elk offense. Will Altemueller is expected to see a bulk of the carries in the rushing game and Jonah Christian will be one of the passing targets for the sophomore.

Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. with pregame events honoring the seniors beginning at 7 p.m.
