WEST JEFFERSON — Ashe County High School senior Joseph Lowder signed his National Letter of Intent to play baseball at Concord University in West Virginia on Monday.

Lowder has been the team’s ace since taking the mound as a sophomore on the varsity team.

As a junior under first-year ACHS head coach Mike Windish, Lowder started 10 games and pitched in four others out of the bullpen. He finished with a 5-6 record, two saves, six complete games and an earned run average of just 1.63 per game.

Lowder struck out 111 batters and walked 27 over 64 and a third innings.

The Concord University Mountain Lions finished last season with a 30-23 overall record and have won at least 30 games in each of the last three seasons.

The Huskies bring back all but five seniors from last year’s varsity team that finished the year 9-13 and 6-8 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.
