MOUTH OF WILSON, Va. — Oak Hill Academy’s basketball team has won three of its four games to open the 2015-16 season.

The year began with an 88-43 win over Moravian Prep (N.C.) on Nov. 3. Five players scored in double figures to lead the way. Seniors Mario Kegler and Khadim Sy scored 15, junior Devontae Shuler added 15, senior Braxton Key scored 14 and junior Lindell Wigginton added 14.

Oak Hill held its home opener on Nov. 6 and treated the fans to an 87-41 victory over Wesley Christian (Ky.). Kegler was once again the high scorer with 21 points. Junior Ty’Shon Alexander added 14, Wigginton scored 12, Key had 11, junior Matt Coleman scored 10 and Shuler finished with 10.

In the Phenom National High School Showcase in Winston-Salem, the Warriors played two games and came back with a 1-1 record last weekend.

The Warriors easily handed Providence Day (N.C.) by a 76-54 score. Kegler poured in 25 points and grabbed five rebounds. Key notched a double-double with 20 points and 11 boards and Coleman finished with 11 points and a team-leading four assists.

For Providence Day, Grant Williams led the way with 23 points and nine rebounds. Josh Howard had 15 points and seven boards and Devon Dotson added 12 points and four rebounds.

In Saturday’s contest, the Warriors lost a hard-fought battle to 22 Ft. Academy (S.C.). Kegler scored 16 and Key finished with 15 but it would be the tandem of Eli Wright and Clifton Powell Jr. that stole the show. Wright led all scorers with 20 and Powell added 10 points to help their squad upset the Warriors, 70-67.

On Monday, Oak Hill bounced back in a big with its second win over Moravian Prep, this one by an 82-56 margin on the road. The game was played at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory.

The Warriors will be off for the upcoming Thanksgiving break before getting back on the court at home on Dec. 1 against A.C. Flora High School (S.C.). After that, the Warriors head to Benton, Kentucky for the annual Marshall County Hoopfest, Dec. 3-5.
