WEST JEFFERSON — A big second quarter from North Surry turned out to be the difference in the ballgame on Monday night.

The Greyhounds outscored Ashe 20-6 in the quarter to take a 25-14 lead going to the half.

The Lady Huskies were up 8-5 after one, but North Surry’s big offensive output in the second quickly turned Ashe’s lead into a deficit.

Junior guard Maggie Hawks led all scorers with 15 points with 12 of those coming in the second half for the Greyhounds. Sophomore forward Mikaela Johnson scored eight points, Abby Andrews tallied seven points and Taylor Duncan added five.

For the Lady Huskies, freshman Samantha Woods continues to impress early in the 2015-16 season. She led the team with 13 points that included a trio of makes behind the three-point line.

Chloe Sullivan added eight points, four rebounds and two assists. Lyndsi Holman scored four points, grabbed five rebounds and had a team-leading three blocks.

Sydney Kate Grubb, Gracie Greene and Amber Miller all added two points and Madison Warner hit a free throw.

Ashe (3-2) dropped its second straight game but will look to get back on track Friday at home against Watauga. The Lady Huskies defeated Watauga last week, 34-23.

North Surry (2-2) will host North Rowan on Friday.
