WEST JEFFERSON — The Huskies bounced back from a tough loss to West Caldwell in a big way, hammering West Wilkes by almost 30 points.
Juniors Dante Shuler and Judd Price each scored 17 points to help Ashe win the third place game of the Colvard Oil Holiday Classic. Price also had some key defensive plays from his point guard spot, including a team-high four steals.
The Huskies were up by six at the half and blew the game wide open in the third quarter, outscoring West Wilkes by a 22-7 margin.
Kendall Richardson was the third double-figure scorer with 15 points. Colin Ellis chipped in eight points, Malachi Poe had seven and Tristen Jones scored six points to go along with a team-leading eight rebounds. Grant Thompson scored five, Dylan Little scored four and Noah Blevins rounded out the scoring with three points.
Jesse Brown scored 15 and Chase Ford added nine. Blackhawk standout Alex Greer was held scoreless and did not play after the first quarter.
Ashe County improved to 5-6 overall while West Wilkes dropped to 4-7. This game did not count in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference standings.
The Huskies will host North Wilkes on Tuesday and travel to East Wilkes on Friday.
West Wilkes will be on the road for two games this week, first at Wilkes Central on Tuesday and then at Starmount on Friday.
In the championship game of the Colvard Oil Holiday Classic, Watauga held on to beat West Caldwell, 55-53.
