RONDA — East Wilkes jumped out to a big 20-2 lead in the first quarter and cruised to a 66-34 win over the visiting Ashe County Lady Huskies on Friday night.
The Lady Cardinals (6-4, 4-0 MVAC) held a 37-10 halftime advantage and never gave Ashe a chance at a comeback.
East Wilkes finished with four double-figure scorers in the victory. Chelsea Edwards led all scorers with 16 points including 11 of those in the big first quarter run to start the game. Alexis Pardue scored 14, Tess Jolly chipped in 12 and Lauren Johnson scored 11.
For Ashe, Amber Miller had her best game of the season, leading the Lady Huskies with 11 points that included a trio of makes behind the three-point line. Samantha Woods scored six, Chloe Sullivan added five and Jayce Miller scored four. Sydney Kate Grubb, Madison Osborne and Savannah Brooks each added two points while Abby Sullivan rounded out the scoring with a free throw.
Ashe fell to 7-6 overall and 2-3 in the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference.
The Lady Huskies will have three games this week. Ashe travels to Bunker Hill on Tuesday, hosts Avery County on Wednesday and hosts the reigning 2A state champions Wilkes Central on Friday.
East Wilkes goes to Alleghany on Tuesday and hosts Elkin on Friday.

The junior varsity Lady Huskies suffered another tough loss. East Wilkes was able to earn a 34-22 victory. The JV girls are 3-10 overall and 0-5 in the MVAC.
The team will return to the court on Wednesday at home against Avery County.
