HAYS — North Wilkes captured wins in eight of the 12 matches against Ashe County last week to take a 48-24 victory.
Ashe got its first win at 106 pounds where Caleb Cooper won by forfeit. North Wilkes scored a pair of wins at 120 pounds and 126 pounds. Christopher Combs pinned Tate Miller and Micah Lovette won by forfeit.
The Huskies answered back with two straight wins. Brady Buchanan kept his good season rolling with a pinfall win over Devin Nichols at 132 pounds. Teammate Harley Miller was able to work hard and pin Zach Holbrook at 138 pounds.
North Wilkes’ Elijah Winters won by forfeit at 145 pounds.
In the 152-pound division, Ashe’s John Reavis took down Ethan Penaloza and got the pin.
After that, it was all Vikings the rest of the way.
Gavin Huffman pinned Tanner Kilby in the 170-pound match. Juan Mendoza pinned Zachariah Bare at 182 pounds and Marcus Vickers pinned Jake Shepherd in the matchup of 195-pounders.
Ernesto Ortiz (220) and Lance McManus (285) won by forfeit for the Vikings.
The Ashe County grapplers will travel to Wilkes Central on Friday.
