JEFFERSON — The Ashe County Middle School wrestling team wants to invite everyone to come out to Pizza Hut on Monday evening, Feb. 1, to support the Bulldog wrestling team.
From 5-8 p.m., a portion of the sales and all of the tips left by customers will go to help the Bulldog wrestlers be able to afford their trip to the upcoming state championship tournament set for Saturday, Feb. 5
“These kids are a great, talented group of kids and we want to send these boys to the state tournament,” said ACMS head coach Alex Wray.
The hope is that with the money that is raised through the Pizza Hut event, all of the wrestlers’ entry fees will be covered, which would be a big help for the parents that will be driving their children to Winston-Salem for the tournament.
First up on the to-do list for the Bulldog wrestling team is the conference tournament coming up this Saturday at Central Wilkes Middle School.
“I have been resting some of my starters for the past few matches, getting them healthy for the conference tournament,” said Coach Wray. “We will be ready to go in and win this.”
The tournament was originally scheduled for last Saturday, but Mother Nature had other ideas, dropping large amounts of snow and ice across the mountains and foothills, forcing the cancellation.
The conference tournament will begin at 9 a.m. this Saturday.
The North Carolina USA Wrestling 34th annual Junior High State Wrestling Championships will take place at the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds Annex in Winston-Salem on Feb. 5-6. Doors will open at 8 a.m. with matches beginning at 10 a.m.
