Monroe pulls away for 67-51 win

MONROE — Basketball season came to a close on Tuesday night for the Ashe County Huskies.

After taking a 19-16 lead after the first quarter, it was all Red Hawks after that, taking a 33-28 lead at the half and never trailing again on the way to a 67-51 win

Sophomore Isaiah Vinson scored 16 points and led Monroe with seven rebounds and four assists. Paul Rushing scored 16 points and Melvin Bonilla added 12 points, three assists and two steals. Nicholas Ashcraft chipped in seven points, Damien Crowder scored six, Noah Marsh added six and Trae Kenion scored four.

Monroe moved to 13-8 overall while the Huskies completed their season at 13-15 overall.

The Red Hawks advanced to face fourth seeded Shelby after they knocked of West Caldwell in the first round, 67-60.
