Elkin tops Ashe, 5-0

ELKIN — Will Altemueller tossed a complete game shutout on Monday night in the first round of the Mountain Valley Athletic Conference Tournament to help Elkin beat the Huskies, 5-0.

The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when Tanner Edwards belted a home run to left field to give the Elks a 1-0 lead.

In the fifth, Hayden Brooks smacked an RBI single to right that scored Altemueller. Eli Brown followed that up with a double and Jackson Carter had a single that brought in another run. Edwards drew a bases loaded walk to put the Elks up 4-0. Ashe was able to escape the inning without giving up any more runs.

After a scoreless top half of the sixth for Ashe, Elkin added on its final run of the night with a solo homer by Cory Wiles.

This marked back-to-back wins for Elkin over the Huskies. The Elks spoiled Ashe’s Senior Day last Friday with a 2-0 victory.

Ashe will now await its playoff fate for the upcoming NCHSAA 2A Playoffs beginning next week.
