WEST JEFFERSON — Cross Country season will officially begin for the Ashe County Huskies on Sept. 1 when Ashe traveled to Yadkin County Park for a non-conference meet.
Next up, Ashe will travel to the Fisher River Invitational in Dobson on Tuesday, Sept. 6 before taking a week off until the team’s first home meet of the season on Sept. 13 with East Wilkes, Elkin and Starmount.
The next weekend, Sept. 17, will feature a trip to McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte for the Hare and Hounds Invitational.
Ashe jumps back into conference action with a road meet at West Wilkes on Sept. 20 that will feature Ashe, West Wilkes, North Wilkes and Alleghany.
The final non-conference meet of the regular season takes place on Sept. 24 with the High Country Classic at Watauga.
The mid-season meet at Wilkes Central follows that on Sept. 27 with all eight MVAC schools.
October begins with a four-team meet at Elkin on Oct. 4 with West Wilkes and North Wilkes being the other two schools.
The Huskies have one final home meet on Oct. 11 with West Wilkes, North Wilkes and Alleghany before the MVAC Championship at Wilkes Central on Oct. 18.
Regional meets will take place on Oct. 29 with the 2A state championship meet happening on Nov. 5.
Madison Warner, a freshman on last year’s Ashe County team, is the defending MVAC Women’s Champion.
