BOONE — The Appalachian State Mountaineers released its official men’s basketball schedule last week, finalizing the non-conference portion that features road games at Tennessee, Duke and NC State.
The Mountaineers will open the 2016-17 regular season at former Southern Conference rival Davidson on Nov. 12. Next up, App State will go to Knoxville to face the Tennessee Volunteers on Nov. 15.
App State will have its first home game on Thursday, Nov. 17 against Warren Wilson College.
After that it is a string of three straight road games. App State heads to Hartford on Nov. 23, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, Duke on Nov. 26 and Charlotte on Nov. 28.
December opens with a home game against rival Western Carolina on Dec. 3. App will face Montreat College at home on Dec. 11 before heading to Raleigh on Dec. 15 to take on the NC State Wolfpack.
The final two non-conference games will be at home. The Mountaineers host James Madison on Dec. 17 and Hampton on Dec. 21.
“We’re excited with our non-conference schedule, putting ourselves on a national stage against programs like Davidson, Duke, Tennessee and NC State,” said head coach Jim Fox. “We continue to maintain and develop regional rivalries that engage our fans and draw lots of interest into our program. I know our guys are up for the challenge and our fans should be excited to see our team perform on a national level come November.”
Conference play opens on Dec. 31 at Texas State. The Mountaineers head to UT-Arlington on Jan. 2 to open 2017.
The first two Sun Belt Conference home games will be on Jan. 7 against Arkansas Little Rock and Jan. 9 against Arkansas State.
The Mountaineers embark on a three-game road trip across the Southeast. App goes to new conference foe Coastal Carolina on Jan. 14, Georgia Southern on Jan. 21 and Georgia State on Jan. 23.
App returns home on Jan. 28 for the second of two matchups against UT-Arlington and Texas State on Jan. 30.
February starts with road games at Arkansas State (Feb. 4) and Arkansas Little Rock (Feb. 6).
Georgia State comes to Boone on Feb. 11 followed by the Mountaineers hosting Georgia Southern on Feb. 13.
The final two road trips of the year are in Alabama. The Mountaineers face South Alabama on Feb. 18 and Troy on Feb. 20.
App will close the regular season with three straight contests at home. UL-Monroe comes to the High Country on Feb. 25 followed by UL-Lafayette on Feb. 27 and Coastal Carolina on March 5.
